Dental crowns are an entire tooth shaped cap, fixed onto your existing teeth or implants to restore shape, size and strength to your teeth; in addition to improving their appearance. Unlike prosthetic devices (such as dentures), that are regularly removed for cleaning and to rest the mouth, crowns remain permanently positioned, and are unable to be removed except by a dentist.

Types and Uses of Dental Crowns
Made from a range of materials, including ceramic, porcelain, gold, metal alloys and acrylic,– your teeth may require dental crowns for a range of reasons.

  1. Cosmetic modification – the appearance of poorly shaped or discoloured teeth can be vastly improved with the placement of dental crowns.
  2. Dental implant coverage.
  3. Root canal treatment coverage to decrease the risk of the weakened tooth snapping.
  4. Holding a dental bridge in place.
  5. Restoring broken, fractured or worn down teeth.
  6. Protecting a weakened, decayed tooth from breaking or to hold together parts of a cracked tooth. Teeth with large fillings are also structurally weak, and fragments of tooth or filling can be broken off when chewing.
  7. Improving gum health & preventing decay. Crowning teeth restores the natural tooth shape to your mouth reducing food trapping, that can cause gum infection (periodontal disease) & tooth decay.
  8. Improving the effectiveness of your bite.Click here to book online
